Human collagenase-3 (MMP-13) was identified first in human breast carcinomas11, and was correlated with poor prognoses of invasive breast cancer12. Expression of MMP-13 has also been detected in colorectal cancer with liver metastasis13, oral tongue, renal cell carcinoma bone metastasis, non-small cell lung cancer, cutaneous malignant melanoma17 and head and neck cancer. Overexpression of MMP-13 have been suggested as important predictive factors for relapse or nodal metastasis of many carcinomas.
