PIK3CB (Phosphatidylinositol-4,5-Bisphosphate 3-Kinase Catalytic Subunit Beta) is a protein coding gene located on human chromosome 3q22.3. PIK3CB is also known as PI3K, PIK3C1, P110BETA and PI3KBETA. The human PIK3CB gene encodes a 122762 Da protein containing 1070 amino acids. The PIK3CB protein is ubiquitously expressed in thyroid, kidney and other tissues. Among its related pathways are Common Cytokine Receptor Gamma-Chain Family Signaling Pathways and GDNF-Family Ligands and Receptor Interactions. PIK3CB is related to transferase activity, transferring phosphorus-containing groups and kinase activity. PIK3CD is an important paralog of PIK3CB gene. PIK3CB is associated with some diseases, including Nk-Cell Enteropathy and Endometrial Cancer.

    PIK3CB gene encodes an isoform of the catalytic subunit of phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K). These kinases are important in signaling pathways involving receptors on the outer membrane of eukaryotic cells and are named for their catalytic subunit. The encoded protein is the catalytic subunit for PI3Kbeta (PI3KB). PI3KB has been shown to be part of the activation pathway in neutrophils which have bound immune complexes at sites of injury or infection. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
