PCK2 (Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxykinase 2, Mitochondrial) is a protein coding gene located on human chromosome 14q11.2-q12. PCK2 is also known as PEPCK, PEPCK2 and PEPCK-M. The human PCK2 gene encodes a 70699 Da protein containing 640 amino acids. The PCK2 protein is biasedly expressed in duodenum, small intestine and other tissues. Among its related pathways are Glucose metabolism and Adipocytokine signaling pathway. PCK2 is related to GTP binding and purine nucleotide binding. PCK1 is an important paralog of PCK2 gene. PCK2 is associated with some diseases, including Pepck 1 Deficiency and Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxykinase Deficiency, Mitochondrial.

      PCK2 promotes tumor initiation by lowering acetyl-CoA level through reducing the mitochondrial tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle. The levels of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase isoform 2 (PCK2) are critical for the metabolic switch and the maintenance of TICs in prostate cancer. PCK2 is a potential therapeutic target for aggressive prostate tumors.
