MBD3 (Methyl-CpG Binding Domain Protein 3), located on 19p13.3, is conserved in chimpanzee, dog, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, zebrafish, and frog. The gene produces a 32844 Da protein composed of 291 amino acids. The human MBD3 protein is 94% identical to mouse Mbd3. MBD3 is essential for embryonic development and differentiation, and to act by suppressing gene expression through the recruitment of co-repressor complexes. The related pathways of MBD3 include the Regulation of TP53 Activity through Acetylation and Chromatin organization.

    MBD3 (Methyl-CpG Binding Domain Protein 3) is a Protein Coding gene. MBD3 is a member of the methyl-CpG-binding domain family and is located on chromosome 19p13.3, a region of loss of heterozygosity in colon and lung cancers. The encoded protein is a subunit of the NuRD, a multisubunit complex containing nucleosome remodeling and histone deacetylase activities. The protein mediates the association of metastasis-associated protein 2 with the core histone deacetylase complex. MBD3 is essential for embryonic development and differentiation and to act by suppressing gene expression through the recruitment of co-repressor complexes. MBD3 is also involved in maintaining the demethylated and active state of rRNA genes, and that depletion of MBD3 results in hypermethylation of rRNA promoters.
