    HIPK2 (Homeodomain Interacting Protein Kinase 2) is a Protein Coding gene. This gene encodes a conserved serine/threonine kinase that is a member of the homeodomain-interacting protein kinase family. There is a regulated interaction between the serine/threonine kinase HIPK2 and the ubiquitin E3 ligase Siah2 as a mechanism controlling the hypoxic response. HIPK2 has an important role as a negative regulator of gene expression, its elimination from promoter-associated repressor complexes allows the induction of a substantial fraction of hypoxia-induced genes. The tumor suppressor HIPK2 is an important regulator of cell death induced by DNA damage. HIPK2 is widely expressed in the brain, kidney, and other tissues. Diseases associated with HIPK2 include Hypoxia and Keratoacanthoma.
