    骨形成タンパク質 (BMP) & 受容体 Background

Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are secreted signaling molecules known for their ability to induce the formation of bone and cartilage. Since then, twenty BMPs have been discovered. BMPs interact with specific receptors on the cell surface and activate the BMP signaling pathways, which is involved in the development of the heart, central nervous system, and cartilage, as well as post-natal bone development. For their important role during embryonic development on the embryonic patterning and early skeletal formation, Mutations in BMPs and their inhibitors (such as sclerostin) are associated with a number of human disorders which affect the skeleton. In addition, bone morphogenetic proteins can also act as axon guidance molecules.
